Salvador Hernández Cano was born and raised in Zinapécuaro, and has been working as a ceramic artist since 1966. Zinapécuaro pottery is unique in that local artists employ resist (also known as negative) technique. This involves applying an applique that is removed after the glaze has been applied, thus leaving a negative impression.
